Longstanding open wounds are stressful. They affect every aspect of your life from getting out of bed to sitting outside. Going to the doctor feels like an insurmountable task.
Plus, who wants to sit in a waiting room with an open wound?
Sunwave Wound Care provides mobile wound care services in Sarasota, Florida, so patients can receive specialized care at home, in their skilled nursing facility, or assisted living community.
Dr. Brian Goldman understands that wound care should fit the patient’s real-world circumstances. He and his team travel through Southwest Florida to provide accessible advanced wound care. The goal is to provide compassionate, evidence-based treatment.
Note: We are not an acute wound center. If you have just cut yourself, call 911 or go to the hospital. We specialize in treating longstanding, slow-to-heal wounds.
We begin with a careful wound assessment. We want to review how the wound started, and what treatment has already been tried. We also want to get a medical history. If the patient has diabetes, vascular disease, reduced sensation, or poor circulation, it delays healing and we'll want to prescribe options to overcome that.
Establishing a baseline is important. The wound is measured, photographed for clinical documentation, and evaluated for drainage.
Treatment generally includes cleansing, dressing changes, and debridement to speed healing.
The purpose is not simply to treat the visible wound. It is to understand why the wound is not healing and to use the latest in scientific breakthroughs to get faster healing.
Our mobile wound care specialists treat wounds that need more than routine first aid. It is appropriate when a wound remains open, or repeatedly breaks down. Chronic wounds are often related to diabetes, poor circulation, or limited mobility.
We commonly treat these items.
We kept hearing how difficult travel is for patients who are already bed-ridden. Sunwave comes to your bedside, offering personalized care with a smile.
The City of Sarasota is made up of many small neighborhoods, homeowner associations and condos. Some of the popular places that we visit include:
Caregivers are often the ones who call us. We provide peace of mind and the advanced treatments to speed the healing process.
Insurance coverage is different for every patient. Ask us about our coverage for Aetna and United Healthcare. We also work with Medicare, but do not accept Medicaid.
Dr. Brian Goldman is the founder of Sunwave Wound Care. He focuses on bringing at home wound care to patients who may have difficulty reaching a traditional clinic. When he is not treating patients you can often find him catching lunch at Boca in downtown Sarasota.
We see our fair share of patients in need of specialized wound care for diabetic foot ulcers or wounds stemming from poor circulation. Blood flow is important to healing and we make suggestions on how to speed recovery in these case.
What about postoperative cases? Routine care is best left to the surgeon’s directions. Should a surgical wound open up, start draining, become painful or simply not heal, it is advisable to get in touch with the surgeon to see if a wound-care consult is in order. Any emergency symptoms are another matter and demand prompt medical attention.
